Operation: T.H.E.-S.H.O.G.U.N. is the first story in the eight episode of Season 2 of Codename: Kids Next Door. It first aired on November 21, 2003 on Cartoon Network.

Summary[]
Numbuh 2 and Numbuh 4 go to the inauguration of a cheese restaurant, but they have no cheese there. Cheese Ninjas at the orders of the Cheese Shogun have control of all the cheese, including the cheese mines.
Plot[]
One day, Numbuh 4 came out with a S.P.L.A.N.K.E.R. and was barging through other people because Numbuh 2 saved a spot for him at the very front. Numbuh 2 then tricked Numbuh 4 that he saved his spot for a little girl and told him to go to the back of the line before others show up. Numbuh 4 got mad but it turned out that Numbuh 2 was joking and he’d never let anyone take Numbuh 4’s place in line. Numbuh 4 had a good laugh. Numbuh 2 and 4 were going to a cheese restaurant called Chez Cheese. But as the waiter opened the door, he was nervous and everyone went in. Numbuh 2 and 4 felt like they were in Cheese Heaven. Wally saw that the cheese restaurant was full of adults. But Hogarth told him to not worry or fret because everyone was here for cheese.
When a waiter named Jacques arrived, Numbuh 4 wanted cheese fries. But Jacques nervously said that they were out of cheese fries. Wally suggested mozzarella sticks but Jacques nervously said they were out of them too. Numbuh 4 was disappointed. Numbuh 2 suggested cheesecake but Jacques was about to say they were out of cheesecake too but they were all excuses. Numbuh 4 was beginning to lose his patience and wanted to know what was going on. Jacques explained that he and everyone were forced to give away all the cheese to this guy called the Cheese Shogun Roquefort. Numbuh 2 had his own cheese to make their own cheeseburgers. Suddenly Cheese Ninjas arrived and everyone, accept Numbuh 2 and Numbuh 4, who got scared now, ran off, and took Numbuh 2’s cheese.
The Cheese Ninjas took them to a Cheese Temple where everything was made of cheese. When Numbuh 2 said he was here to eat cheese, one of the Cheese Ninjas said, “Eat cheese?! Take them!,” and kidnapped Numbuh 2 and 4 where they were taken to the Cheese Shogun Roquefort. One of the Cheese Ninjas nervously explained about eating the cheese. Cheese Shogun Roquefort got mad and said, “WHAT?! Impudent fools. You dare eat that, which is more valuable than gold?,”. Numbuh 2 wanted his cheese back so he can show him how it’s done but Cheese Shogun Roquefort didn’t care and said, “He who controls the cheese controls the world. All mankind quicks at the power of cheese,” and called himself master of different cheeses, Numbuh 2 and Numbuh 4 snickered quietly and made a joke and Wally said, “More like the Looney of Limburger,” and laughed themselves silly quietly but Cheese Shogun Roquefort heard them and sent them to the Cheese Mines and Numbuh 2 wanted his cheese back.
At the Cheese Mines, everyone and Numbuh 2 and 4 were crating the cheese as fast as they can by the Cheese Ninjas. Numbuh 2 and Numbuh 4 snuck quietly away trying to find the way out but didn’t know where. They heard a voice and said, “Or I’ll just give you directions,” Wally thanked the voice but it was the Cheese Ninjas. Numbuh 2 and Numbuh 4 jumped into a mine-cart and rolled away. The Cheese Ninjas were right behind them and got tired out since they were fast.
Numbuh 2 made some cheese puns but they were heading for a big track hill like a roller coaster and flew over lava but made it to the other side and went round and about, up and down, left and right and came to a junction. Numbuh 2 wanted to go left but Numbuh 4 wanted to go right. But went left and crashed into a cheese wall and got cornered by the Cheese Ninjas and ended up back where they started and Numbuh 4 was right when he wanted to go right.
The Cheese Ninjas didn’t like Numbuh 2’s cheese jokes and puns. But because the mine-cart crashed into the wall, the Cheese Shogun Roquefort statue started to crumble and the mine was starting to collapse. Numbuh 4 told everyone to leave and they did. Numbuh 2 wanted to go left but Numbuh 4 wanted to go right and everyone followed him.
Cheese Shogun Roquefort watched sadly as the cheese mine collapsed. Numbuh 2 barged in and wanted to do a cheese fight. Cheese Shogun Roquefort told Numbuh 2 about the moon being made of cheese and explained that all the cheese could mind control children to tear down his cheesy dynasty. But Numbuh 2 really came back for his cheese and Cheese Shogun Roquefort ate it and Numbuh 2 got mad and decided to “cut the cheese” and they charged toward each other but offscreen, the attacking was unknown and offscreen.
Meanwhile, Numbuh 4 found the way out for everyone and they ran happily away and was glad but Numbuh 4 forgot that Numbuh 2 was still inside and had to go back and get him. Numbuh 4 arrived to find Numbuh 2, who defeated the Cheese Shogun Roquefort and wore his cheese samurai hat and acted and sounded like him and said, “That’s right. I have defeated that pathetic pile of parmigiana and once I rebuilt the Cheese Mines, I, Numbuh 2, will be the most powerful Cheese Shogun ever! No one shall ever eat my precious cheese again! And there’s nothing you can do to stop me,”.
Numbuh 4 got scared and he was beginning to worry about his friend and he didn’t want to fight Numbuh 2. But it turned out that Numbuh 2 was joking again and he laughed and laughed himself silly and got Numbuh 4 pretty good. Numbuh 4 was very mad and a little dumbfounded. But Numbuh 2 was feeling pleased with himself. And Cheese Shogun Roquefort had to admit that Numbuh 2 is quite the joker but was knocked unconscious by Numbuh 4.
As they left, Numbuh 4 wanted to know how Numbuh 2 defeated the Cheese Shogun Roquefort. Hoagie told Wally that he did Stilton style on him but countered with pepper jack power punch. Numbuh 2 told Numbuh 4 more cheese related things but really Numbuh 2 just made Cheese Shogun Roquefort hit his head on the ceiling as Numbuh 2 continued with his cheese puns.

- Shogun is a military rank and historical title in Japan.
- It's shown that Numbuh 2 is a cheese connoisseur and always has a wedge of Swiss cheese with him.
- Several adult characters appear repeatedly through the line in front of the restaurant at the start of this episode.
- Numbuhs 1, 3, and 5 don't appear at all during this episode.
- Mr. Warburton stated on his blog that the idea of the cheese ninjas came about while drawing in one of his sketchbooks during college.[1]

- The girl whom Hoagie had replaced Wallabee's place in line with has a different voice in this episode to the one she had in "Operation: O.F.F.I.C.E.". This is because Ben Diskin voiced her in this episode.

- The Maitre'd previously worked at the Le Ball du Shane in Operation: L.I.Z.Z.I.E..
- This is the second time the KND has taken a samurai hat, with them first doing it in Operation: T.H.E.-F.L.Y..
Pop Culture References[]
- This episode has ties to the Monty Python sketch "The Cheese Shop", in which someone attempts to buy a multitude of different cheeses and the shop is out of stock of all of them.
- The episode is likely also loosely inspired by the 1985 novel, Shogun.
- The way the cheese ninjas run around too fast to be seen is similar to The Flash from DC Comics.
- When the shot transitions from the restaurant and to the Shogun's palace, the Moon is made to look like cheese. This is a reference to the fictional belief that the Moon is made of green cheese sometimes used in childrens cartoons. This is also mentioned later by Shogun Roquefort.
- "He who controls the cheese, controls the world" is likely a parody of "He who controls the spice, controls the universe" from the 1965 novel, Dune.
Errors/Goofs[]
- The same character models appear several different times throughout the episode, sometimes even in the same shots.
- Numbuh 4 actually enters the crowd fairly close to the start of the line, getting into the crowd in front of the building two doors from the restaurant. But in the next shot he is several buildings away, and actually passes the same building he first went in front of afterwards.
- There are three adults directly behind Numbuh 2 in the first shot of him waiting for Numbuh 4, but a girl suddenly appears in front of one the adults when the shot changes to further away.
- When Numbuh 4 lands next to Numbuh 2, he jumped in from the street, and not from the crowd behind Numbuh 2.
- Even though Numbuh 2 and 4 enter the restaurant first, they're walking behind a number of other customers in the shot inside of the restaurant.
- When Numbuh 2 and 4 first sit down, the woman dressed in pink behind Numbuh 2 is sitting with a dark-haired man. But, when Numbuh 2 pulls up his own cheese wheel, the woman is sitting with a brown-haired man who previously sat at another table.
- There are no other people around when Numbuh 2 and 4 crash their mine cart, but in the next shot there is suddenly to kids next to them.
- Numbuh 2's cheese was triangle-shaped throughout the episode until when Numbuh 4 picks it up near the end of the episode, at which point the cheese is now round.
