Mr. Sanban is very high strung and moody. He is shown to lose his temper or cry very easily.
He prefers cold conditions, as seen in Operation: H.O.T.S.T.U.F.F.. He has the thermostat in his home turned down so that it's freezing and angrily refuses to allow it to be turned up any higher.
In Operation: C.L.U.E.S, he admits he regrets getting his daughters rainbow monkey dolls, because he can't stand their "constant bickering" (which they actually aren't, showing that he tends to overreact) and just wants to them to get along.
In Operation: H.O.T.S.T.U.F.F., Kuki turns up the thermostat so high that the house it literally flooded with lava. Mr. Sanban stays in the Sector V Treehouse while the Kids Next Door return his home to normal, with Numbuh 4 keeping an eye on him.After they have done so, it is revealed that Mr. Sanban has tempered with the thermostat in the treehouse and frozen it.
He is frustrated to the point of tears trying to make ice cream sundaes In Operation: S.P.A.N.K.E.N.S.T.I.N.E. Later when Joe Balooka shows up at the door with chocolate sauce, Mr. Sanban is so excited he slams the door before Joe could finish talking.
- His name is Japanese for "crab" (蟹), and reflects his crabby personality.
- His preference for cold climates may be due to the fact that in Japan, most housing units don't have central heating.
- As Numbuh 4 keeps an eye on him in Operation: H.O.T.S.T.U.F.F., many fans speculated that Kani will eventually be Numbuh 4's father-in-law, as the video clip implies.
- This is basically confirmed in Operation: INTERVIEWS, since it turns out that Numbuhs 3 and 4 end up getting married as adults.
