Soda Is X-changed

Operation: S.I.X. is the second story in the sixth episode of Season 6 of Codename: Kids Next Door. It first aired on January 12, 2007 on Cartoon Network and is the sixth episode of the C.A.K.E.D. Saga.

Summary[]

Numbuhs 2, 3 and 6 must deliver a truckload of soda to a girl birthday party, but they must prevent Mr. Fizz and Lieutenant Seltzer from stopping them!

Synopsis[]

At Lime Ricky’s a girl named Marybeth asks him where to find Hoagie, he is in a dark booth with Numbuh 3 and Numbuh 6 (Bradley). She tells them that she is having her 10th birthday party at Yipper Pizza and tells them she needs someone to deliver soda. Numbuh 2 points out that soda is illegal for anyone under 13 and the Soda Control Board will arrest them if they have that much soda with them. She say that a friend was able to get 11 gallons for her and says she heard he can outrun the SCB, Numbuh 2 says it’s true and accepts the job. Marybeth gives him the keys to the truck and thanks him. Hoagie watches her leave and Numbuhs 3 & 6 tease him and laughed themselves silly.

Unfortunately for the trio, the person sitting behind them was actually an informative of Mr. Fizz named Lt. Seltzer who reports to him through one of the soda machines. Mr Fizz is determined to take down Numbuh 2 and get the soda. Meanwhile Numbuh 3 is begging Numbuh 2 to let her and Bradley come on the mission but he refuses. After seeing the truck is a Rainbow Monkey truck, he gets to work. While fixing it up Lt. Seltzer and several soda control board operatives arrive to arrest the trio. Bradley distracts them while Numbuh 2 demands Numbuh 3 come with him, she agrees and drives towards Bradley.

As they drive away Numbuh 2 comes out of the engine and takes over the steering. He then puts a carbonation measurement to make sure the soda doesn’t explode. Seconds later the Soda Control Board catches up to them, Numbuh hits the turbo button but nothing happens. He has Numbuh 3 drive while he works on the turbo boost. Mr Fizz manages to grab the truck but Bradley breaks in and takes out the soldiers with his odor. Mr. Fizz however grabs Bradley and tells him he is immune to the smell due to the amount of soda bubbles of up his nose. As he celebrates his apprehension of Bradley, he doesn't see the second Soda Control Board carbonator and both carbonators collide into each other, sending a huge mushroom cloud of soda up into the air. As the truck races away, Numbuh 2 is shocked by the sudden disturbance while fixing the turbo. They then notice the Soda Control Board has resorted to Plan B: smaller speedy vehicles. Numbuh 3 demands they go back to retrieve Bradley, But Numbuh 2 points out the Soda Control Board's actions are causing the soda in the tank to expand the tank, so they have to race away before they lose both the soda and the truck. Numbuh 3 objects and they both fight over the turbo boost button. Ultimately, Numbuh 2 succeeds and they get away from the Soda Control Board. Numbuh 3 is saddened they lost Bradley though. As they drive, they come across a KND Road Block. They notice the road block isn't opening, so Numbuh 2 suggest they stop to investigate. But Numbuh 3 points out the truck's brakes are faulty and they end up ramming through the road block. Numbuh 1 tries radioing Numbuh 2 via the truck radio, but is cut off as Numbuh 2 has to go up and deploy the P.O.W.U.H.-P.A.C.K. emergency brake. As Numbuh 2 deploys the brake, he sees Bradley hanging onto the rear ladder of the truck. As he reaches down, Fizz kicks him off the truck. As Fizz taunts Numbuh 2, his speech is interrupted as the truck swerves to avoid hippos roaming the road. As Numbuh 3 swerves, she notices Bradley in the rear-view mirror. Numbuh 3 then runs out to reunite with Bradley who's fortunate to be still alive. But while doing so, the truck hits a hippo and the truck rolls onto it's side and starts sliding towards the Yipper Youth Club Playtime Pizza Palace. Numbuh 2 pulls the E-brake and it causes the soda to expand even more. That causes them to run clear of the truck while yelling at Marybeth to duck for cover. That's when the truck explodes in a rather small cloud of steam instead of a huge BLEVE-type explosion.

Fizz finally apprehends Numbuh 2 and tells him he's under arrest for transporting soda. But as the steam clears, it exposes a birthday cake in the tank and absolutely no soda! That's when Fizz drops Numbuh 2 in bewilderment and disappointment. Marybeth explains if Numbuh 2 helps her transport the cake, she can eat a piece. That's when the DCFDTL show up, thank Numbuh 2 for transporting the cake, and fly off with it and Marybeth in an escape pod.

Numbuh 1 and the other KND arrive blasting away to no avail. Numbuh 2 then asks Numbuh 1 if the road block was set up to stop him from delivering the cake in which Numbuh 1 replies with a sad yes. Numbuh 2 is relieved they didn't get busted with soda... until Numbuh 3 shows up with a can of soda in her hand.

Numbuh 2 is seen at the bar with Mr. Fizz, talking about what happened throughout the episode.

Continuity[]

  • This episode turned out to be the 6th part in the C.A.K.E.D. series, as indicated by the number in the title. Though it's one of two Delightful Children birthday episodes without the acronym "C.A.K.E.D." in the title along with the fact that they finally got to eat their cake all by themselves because the Kids Next Door failed this mission.
  • Kuki sings My Little Charlene, the song the Truck Driver sang back in season 1 episode Operation: P.I.A.N.O.
  • This is one of the few times someone yells at Numbuh 3 instead of the other way around.

Pop Culture References[]

  • This is a parody of the movie Smokey and the Bandit.
  • When Numbuh 3 and RoboBradley were teasing Numbuh 2 about having a crush on Marybeth March, Numbuh 2 says "Laugh it up stinkball" which is a reference to Han Solo's line from The Empire Strikes Back "Laugh it up fuzzball".
  • The scene where they see the trucks are coming up from behind them in the rear-view mirror is a reference to the scene from Jurassic Park when the T-Rex was chasing after the main characters in the Jeep.

Trivia[]

  • This is the penultimate episode in the C.A.K.E.D. saga.
    • It is the first and only time the Delightful Children succeed in keeping the cake.
  • Numbuh 3 is teasing Numbuh 2 about being boyfriend and girlfriend with Marybeth March like in Operation B.E.A.C.H., Operation: S.L.U.M.B.E.R., Operation N.A.U.G.H.T.Y., and Operation: R.E.C.E.S.S. when Numbuh 2, 5, 12, and 23 teased Numbuh 3 and Numbuh 4 about being boyfriend and girlfriend.
  • This episode marks Mr. Fizz and Bradley's final appearances in the series.
  • The episode's title "S.I.X." is a red herring to mislead viewers about its true meaning:
    • It references the inclusion of Bradley AKA Numbuh 6, who makes his first reappearance since Season 3's Operation: H.O.S.P.I.T.A.L.
    • It also references how soda cans and bottles are usually packaged and sold in six packs, tying into the episode's supposed mission of delivering a truckload of soda to a kid's birthday party.
    • However, as stated above, this was actually the sixth installment of the C.A.K.E.D. saga without the aforementioned acronym to trick the viewers based on the first two references.
